In the past, the arbitrary exercise of power rooted in racial oppression, which was happening in South Africa at the end of the 20th century is seen today in the illegal and violent occupation of Palestine by Israel. The domination of the Israeli military power, characterised by the systematic discrimination against the Palestinian people, is nothing less than a crime – the crime of apartheid.

This institutionalised system of brutal oppression imposed upon Palestinians escalated in the shadows of colonisation and deprivation. Denied their right to existence, stigmatised, and subjected to racial hatred, the Palestinian people continue to suffer under an illegal system of segregation.

The constant discrimination faced by the Palestinian people has been documented through hate crimes, segregative laws as well as the inhuman treatment of innocent children called “children of darkness”. They are growing up traumatised for life, feeling threatened for their identity. Forced out of their homes or tortured for the purpose of total elimination, this climate of fear implemented by the Israeli occupying power has crossed a line of inhumanity that should never have been seen.

EAFORD and Geneva International Centre for Justice call for sanctions against Israel to end the perpetration of crimes against humanity. The refusal to implement such measures would pose grave consequences. It would represent an unequivocal failure of international law, dealing a significant blow to its credibility. Each Palestinian deserves the right to live, and to belong.
