Item 3: Interactive Dialogue with the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development
Joint Statement of Association with Geneva International Centre for Justice and International-Lawyers.Org
20th September 2023
Delivered by Martin Browne/GICJ
Thank you, Mr. Vice President.
International-Lawyers.Org welcomes the report of the Expert Mechanism on the Right to Development.
We especially welcome the Experts’ consultation on reform of the international financial institutions.
Making these institutions more representative of the international community as a whole and more transparent in the carrying out of their activities is a conditio sina qua non for their continued existence and their relevance to creating a more just and equitable international order.
We urge the Experts to follow up their discussion of this matter with concrete and specific recommendations for reform of the international financial mechanisms. This will facilitate the necessary progress to be made.
We also welcome the consideration given in this report and in statements today - to future generations and to the contribution of youth engagement in policy and decision-making processes contributing to development. The right to development cannot be achieved without truly meaningful consideration of future generations and the real involvement of young people in the decision-making processes related to the right to development.
We encourage the Experts to make concrete and specific recommendations in relation to both of these interests to future-proof our collective attempts at realising the right.
Thank you.
