Delivered by Loïc Dorthe / GICJ

On Friday, the 30th of September 2022, Loïc Dorthe made an oral statement on behalf of EAFORD and GICJ. He urged the international community to end Israel's impunity for collective punishment of Palestinians.

Loïc condemned the behaviour of Israel and its military in systematically demolishing the homes, appartements, and buildings of those designated as "terrorists". Such actions have a serious impact on entire families. They are deprived of everything they own and thrown out into the street, which is a clear form of collective punishment, violating Article 33 of the Fourth Geneva Convention.

In addition, he denounced the restrictions on access to certain areas, which since May 2022 have affected second-degree relatives of suspected terrorists. It was already a violation of humanitarian law to punish parents and siblings, but in the face of the lack of international response, nothing prevented Israel from imposing further violations.

EAFORD and Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) call on the international community to speak out against Israeli collective punishment, to prevent further violations of humanitarian law, to end impunity, and to bring justice to the Palestinian people.
