Martin Browne of GICJ, spoke at the General Debate at the Human Rights Council highlighted the need to reform investigative mandates to make them more efficient and more effective at securing justice for victims of human rights abuses. 

Despite the expansion of these bodies' work - there are still serious countries outside of the specific mandates where there are serious, grave, and ongoing human rights concerns that require greater attention within this Council.

In its joint statement with Meezaan Center for Human Rights, Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) identified concerns about the issues of unlawful killings, enforced disappearances and sectarian violence that has included suppression of peaceful protests in 2019 contrary to the right of all people to peacefully assemble and express themselves.
