We recognize the importance of the Working Group of Experts on People of African Descent and its report on children of African descent.

In a joint oral statement on behalf of EAFORD and GICJ on Monday, the 3rd of October 2022, Emily Bare of GICJ addressed the history of justifying and enabling colonial domination and neo-colonial dynamics and how these issued must be addressed in various fields such as education, health, and development.  She stressed that this issue is important as it relates to future generations and humanity.

The statement highlighted the strong need to address invisible challenges and barriers such as mental and child sexual slavery among others, as these are also negative results of the legacies of slavery.

The two organisations, EAFORD and Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) strongly believe that effective inclusion of victims and affected communities is paramount in discussions regarding accountability and redress. We also highlight the urgent need for special measures to be incorporated to combat racial discrimination and inequality faced by children.
