GICJ Oral Statement with Meezaan Center for Human Rights

Delivered by: Lola Stirling

On the 30th of March 2022, the Human Right Council held a High-level Interactive Discussion on the human rights situation in the Central African Republic. Lola Stirling delivered a statement on behalf of the Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) and Meezan Centre for Human Rights. Ms Stirling expressed concern about continuing human rights abuses committed against civilians. She also addressed the disproportionate impact of conflict on women and girls, especially as the Central African Republic has one of the highest rates of child marriage in the world.

Meezaan and GICJ call for perpetrators of violence and violations to be held to account. We urge all parties to respect the ceasefire and utilise mechanisms to provide a peaceful and prosperous future.
