GICJ Oral Statement with Meezaan Center for Human Rights
Delivered by: Jamel Nampijja
On the 28th of March, Jamel Nampijja delivered an Oral Statement in the General debate on racism, racial discrimination, xenophobia and related forms of intolerance, follow-up to and implementation of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action. She delivered the Statement on behalf of the Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ), and Meezaan Center for Human Rights.
In her Oral Statement, Ms Nampijja addressed the issue of Artificial Intelligence, as it holds the potential to worsen discriminatory practices, reinforcing historic systems of racism and inequality that predate AI. GICJ and Meezaan call on all states to apply all relevant human rights instruments with regards to digital technologies as mentioned in the DDPA in order to tackle racial discrimination and disparities experienced by marginalized ethnicities because of AI algorithms.
