GICJ Oral Statement with EAFORD
Delivered by: Patricia Jjuuko
On the 18th of March 2022, the Human Right Council held an Interactive Dialogue with the Commission on Human Rights in South Sudan. It began with a statement from Michelle Bachelet, the High Commissioner for Human Rights, giving an update on the situation of human rights in South Sudan.
Patricia Jjuuko delivered an Oral Statement on behalf of the Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) and the International Organization for the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination (EAFORD), where she expressed great concern about the alarming incidences of intercommunal violence in South Sudan. GICJ and EAFORD call on the Government of South Sudan, which has the primary responsibility of protecting its civilians, to carry out timely investigations and that the perpetrators be held accountable.
