GICJ Oral Statement with Meezaan Center for Human Rights and Geneva International Centre for Justice

Delivered by Martin Browne / GICJ

On the 12th of September, Martin Browne delivered an oral statement on behalf of Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ), welcoming the report of the Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar.
He highlighted that such an investigative body is crucial in achieving justice. The crimes are grave and the victims numerous. Given the complexity of the process, particularly when coming to pursue a crime of genocide, Martin called for all states to provide real, effective financial and institutional support. This would allow the mechanism to have access to witnesses, victims, and to prosecute those responsible for serious crimes and grave human rights violations.
Meezaan Center for Human Rights and Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) strongly urge all states to give real, practical, and effective support to the mechanisms’ investigations. This is necessary to increase accountability for serious crimes and achieve justice for the people of Myanmar.
