As the year comes to an end, Geneva International Centre for Justice (GICJ) held a Zoom meeting to welcome new collaborators and to thanks those who are about to leave at the end of their terms. It was an opportunity to discuss upcoming activities and to start planning the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council, which will take place in March of 2022. New collaborators and volunteers at GICJ will take over from the team who started six months ago, and will take an active part in the 49th HRC session.
Among other tasks, the team will draft reports and submit written statements to the Human Rights Council, as well as deliver oral statements. Outside of the sessions, they will write opinion pieces and manage social media. During the meeting, we discussed the importance of independent writing and of civil society voices.
GICJ is honored to work with such a diverse range of committed individuals, whose varied backgrounds will provide an inclusive perspective to the work of GICJ. As usual, our team includes volunteers from EU, Latin America, Africa, USA, Middle East, and Asia.
The meeting was also the opportunity to thank our colleagues for the hard work accomplished under the difficult circumstances of Covid-19 and online collaboration. We hope that these conditions will improve in months to come, so that we can resume in-person participation and training activities. We look forward to the new year, and wish all of our readers, colleagues and collaborators a very happy end of the year.
